Gripsholm and Mariefred
Gripsholm castle is located in Mariefred, about 45 minutes southwest of Stockholm, and it is one of ten royal palaces in Sweden. It was built by King Gustav Vasa in 1537.
With a guide at your side you will learn a lot more about the more than four hundred years of history of this castle. A castle with well-preserved interiors filled with furniture, ornaments, textiles and works of art enjoyed by several royal dynasties. The unique royal theatre from 1781 remains unchanged and is considered to be one of the castle’s masterpieces.
The castle is surrounded by a beautiful park on the shores of the lake Mälaren. Nearby is Mariefred and a nature reserve called Hjorthagen where you can find nearly 100 deer roaming the grounds.
