Who we are The Association of Authorized Stockholm Guides was formed in 1953 as a non-profit association. The purpose for the association is to promote tourism in Stockholm, while simultaneously working to strengthen the professionalism of Stockholm City guides.
The association now consists of approximately 290 very qualified Stockholm specialists, most of whom are individual entrepreneurs.

Authorized guides have been working in Stockholm for more than the past 50 years. Training of guides is arranged by the Stockholm Visitors Board AB, and currently encompasses two terms of training and this, in order to get the authorization, is followed by a written test as well as a practical test (guiding a bus tour). There is ongoing continuing education and the authorization is renewed after a review every fifth year.

All members have gone through the guide training and many also have other educational backgrounds, professional merits and experiences which add yet another dimension to the guiding. Many of the guides have worked on special interest tours, when varied  themes are discussed and highlighted. Others give lectures or do dramatised tours.
